MakeMyTrip Commission for Hotels: What You Actually Receive

MakeMyTrip Commission in Short

15 to 25% commission, most independent hotels pay 18 to 22%

MakeMyTrip charges Indian hotels 15 to 25 percent commission; most independent hotels pay 18 to 22 percent. MMT does not publish an official rate, because it is set per contract. On top of commission, MMT deducts 18% GST on that commission, TDS at 0.1%, and GST TCS at 0.5%. On a ₹5,000 room booking at 20% commission, you receive ₹3,790 after all deductions.

New to OTAs? If you are just starting to list your hotel online, read what an OTA is and how it works first. It explains commission, extranets and rate parity before you sign any contract.

A hotel owner in Indore listed on MakeMyTrip for a year but the settlement amounts never matched her expectations. The GoMMT extranet showed one number; her bank showed another. The difference was commission, GST on that commission, TDS, and TCS. This guide breaks each deduction down and tells you whether MakeMyTrip commission is worth it for your property.

What Is MakeMyTrip's Commission Rate for Hotels?

MakeMyTrip does not publish a fixed commission rate. The rate is set per contract, which means two hotels in the same city can be on different rates. The range third-party sources agree on is 15 to 25 percent. Most independent hotels end up paying 18 to 22 percent.

What Moves Your Rate

  • City and demand level. Hotels in high-demand destinations such as Goa, Shimla, Manali, or Jaipur often face higher starting rates than hotels in tier-2 cities with lower MMT traffic.
  • Property type and star category. Budget and unbranded properties typically pay higher rates than large branded hotels, which have more negotiating power.
  • Booking volume. The more bookings you generate on MMT, the stronger your case for a lower rate at renewal.
  • Review score. A consistently high guest rating signals a reliable property and can support a rate reduction request.
  • Programmes you join. Opt-in programmes such as Smart Deals require you to fund discounts from your own rate. These are not a separate fee MMT charges, but they reduce your effective room revenue and push your total cost of sale higher.

Goibibo Shares the Same Contract

MakeMyTrip and Goibibo operate under the same parent company (MakeMyTrip Ltd) and share the GoMMT extranet (the partner dashboard where you manage your listing on both platforms). When you sign with MMT, your property is automatically listed on Goibibo too, under the same commission terms. You do not negotiate two separate rates.

Negotiation Levers

Commission is negotiable. New properties have little room, because MMT has no performance data on them. After six months of consistent bookings, a good review score, and low cancellations, contact your MMT relationship manager and ask for a review. Properties in high-demand destinations often achieve a reduction of 2 to 4 percent. Bring three months of performance data from the MMT extranet: bookings per month, conversion rate, and average room rate.

What Does a ₹5,000 MakeMyTrip Booking Actually Pay You?

When a guest books a ₹5,000 room on MMT, four separate deductions happen before the settlement reaches your account. Here is exactly how that works at 20% commission.

MakeMyTrip deductions on a ₹5,000 room booking
Line item Calculation Amount
Room rate Base room price ₹5,000
GST on room (paid by guest) 5% of ₹5,000 (room at 5% slab) ₹250
Guest pays total ₹5,250
Commission deducted by MMT 20% of ₹5,000 ₹1,000
GST on commission (MMT charges you) 18% of ₹1,000 ₹180
TDS deducted by MMT 0.1% of ₹5,000 (s.194-O) ₹5
TCS deducted by MMT 0.5% of ₹5,000 (CGST s.52) ₹25
Settlement received from MMT 5,000 + 250 GST passthrough, minus 1,000 minus 180 minus 5 minus 25 ₹4,040
Less: room GST you remit to government Collected from guest via MMT, passed to you ₹250
You keep (75.8% of room rate) ₹3,790

Which Deductions Come Back to You

  • TDS (₹5): This is not a permanent cost. MMT deposits it with the Income Tax department under your PAN. It appears in your Form 26AS and Annual Information Statement (AIS). Claim it as a credit when you file your income tax return (ITR).
  • TCS (₹25): GST TCS under CGST Act Section 52 goes into your GST electronic cash ledger after MMT files its GSTR-8. You use it to offset your GST liability. Check your GST portal to confirm the credit is showing. Note: if your hotel is not registered for GST, MMT does not deduct TCS on your bookings. MMT pays GST on the room as deemed supplier under Section 9(5) instead.
  • Commission and GST on commission (₹1,180 combined): These are a real cost. You cannot recover the ₹180 GST on commission if your rooms are taxed at 5%, because the 5% slab carries no input tax credit (ITC). This is the hardest part of the MMT cost structure for budget hotels.

Reading Your MMT Settlement Statement

MMT settles weekly by NEFT or RTGS. The settlement statement in the GoMMT extranet shows each booking on a separate row: room rate, commission, GST on commission, TDS, TCS, and net settlement. Cross-check the commission percentage against your contract rate. Discrepancies appear when MMT applies a promotional rate you did not intend to opt in to. See the TDS and TCS on OTA payments guide for a detailed reconciliation walkthrough.

What Do Hotels Pay MakeMyTrip Beyond Commission?

The short answer: no joining fee, no listing fee, and no annual charge. MMT earns only on completed bookings. But there are programmes that can push your total cost of sale well above the base commission rate.

Promotional Programmes and Smart Deals

MMT offers opt-in promotional programmes that increase your visibility on the platform. Smart Deals is an example: when you participate, MMT shows your property at a discounted rate. That discount comes from your loaded rate. MMT does not bill you a separate fee for it. Instead, your effective room revenue is lower, so your commission is calculated on a lower base, but your net realisation per booking falls.

Visibility programmes can compound this. If you combine a base commission of 20% with a Smart Deals discount of 7%, the total cost of sale on that booking can exceed 27% of the discounted rate. On a ₹5,000 room that appears at ₹4,650 after a 7% discount, your effective commission share reaches approximately ₹1,230 including the discount funded from your rate.

Watch the effective rate, not just the commission percentage. Ask your MMT manager to show you your effective cost of sale including any active promotions. A 20% contract rate with a 7% Smart Deal opt-in is not a 20% channel. It is closer to 30%.

What Is the MakeMyTrip Convenience Fee Guests Pay?

When a guest books a hotel on MakeMyTrip, MMT adds a convenience fee (sometimes called a service fee) at checkout. The guest pays this fee to MMT directly. It is not deducted from your settlement, and it is separate from the commission MMT charges you.

The exact amount varies and appears at checkout. Why should you care? The guest's total cost on MMT is your rate plus room GST plus this fee. A guest who books direct avoids it entirely. That is a direct-booking argument worth making at check-in.

Is MakeMyTrip Worth It for Your Hotel?

MakeMyTrip and Goibibo together dominate Indian domestic online hotel bookings. For domestic leisure travel, tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and new properties without an existing booking base, MMT delivers volume that is hard to replicate through direct channels alone. The question is whether the economics justify that volume at your property's rate.

When MMT Works in Your Favour

  • New properties. MMT fills rooms while you build a direct booking base.
  • Leisure destinations. Goa, Manali, Coorg, Udaipur: domestic leisure demand runs heavily through MMT and Goibibo.
  • Tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Where Booking.com has lower penetration, MMT is often the primary OTA.
  • Low occupancy periods. Commission on an otherwise empty room beats zero revenue.

When to Limit Exposure

  • Your direct booking share is above 30% and you want to protect it.
  • You are stacking promotions and your effective cost of sale has crept past 30%.
  • Your ADR (average daily rate) is low enough that commission plus GST on commission turns the booking unprofitable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MakeMyTrip good for booking hotels?
MMT and Goibibo together dominate Indian domestic online hotel bookings. For new properties, tier-2 and tier-3 city hotels, and leisure destinations, MMT delivers strong demand. The cost is 15 to 25 percent commission plus 18% GST on that commission, which is not recoverable for most hotels. Whether it is worth it depends on your ADR and how much direct business you already have.
What are service fees in MakeMyTrip?
MakeMyTrip charges guests a convenience fee at checkout. The guest pays it to MMT; it is not deducted from the hotel's payout and is separate from commission. The significance for hoteliers: the guest's total cost on MMT is higher than your direct rate, which is a direct-booking argument. The exact amount varies and appears at checkout.
How much commission does MakeMyTrip take from hotels?
MakeMyTrip charges 15 to 25 percent commission; most independent hotels pay 18 to 22 percent. The rate is set per contract, not published. On a ₹5,000 booking at 20 percent, MMT takes ₹1,000 commission plus ₹180 GST on that commission, leaving you ₹3,790 after TDS and TCS.
Does MakeMyTrip charge GST on commission?
Yes. MakeMyTrip charges 18% GST on its commission, shown as a separate deduction on your settlement statement. If your rooms are at the 5% GST slab, you cannot claim this back as input tax credit (ITC). On a ₹1,000 commission, that is ₹180 in real cost.
What is TDS deducted by MakeMyTrip?
MakeMyTrip deducts TDS at 0.1% of the gross booking value under Section 194-O of the Income Tax Act. On a ₹5,000 booking, TDS is ₹5. It is not a cost: MMT deposits it under your PAN and it appears in Form 26AS, where you claim it as a credit in your income tax return.
Can I negotiate MakeMyTrip commission?
Yes. The rate is set per contract, not fixed, so it is negotiable. New properties have less leverage. After six months of consistent performance, ask your MMT relationship manager for a review. Hotels in high-demand destinations or those offering more inventory to MMT often achieve a 2 to 4 percent reduction.
How long does MakeMyTrip take to pay hotels?
MakeMyTrip settles weekly, typically 7 to 14 days after guest checkout, by NEFT or RTGS to the bank account in your GoMMT extranet. The settlement statement lists each booking with commission, GST on commission, TDS, TCS, and net amount credited.
