You run a 30-room hotel in Andheri East. Monday to Thursday you fill at ₹4,500 on corporate bookings; Friday and Saturday drop to 40 percent. A hotel three streets away runs 75 percent on weekends too: they have Booking.com for international guests and a direct corporate contract with two nearby companies. The best OTA for hotels in Mumbai is the right combination for each demand type, not one platform.
How We Score OTA Channels
Each channel is scored 1 to 5 on three criteria, weighted for Mumbai. Presence in Mumbai carries 45% because corporate and transit guests search by location first: a channel that does not reach Mumbai's source markets (domestic India, Gulf, North America, Europe) cannot send you those guests however good its tools are. Promotional tools carry 30%, presentation 25%.
The STAAH 2025 national chart (go-mmt first, Agoda second, Booking.com third, Cleartrip fourth) is the national baseline. Mumbai skews differently: Expedia's North American reach matters more here, and Cleartrip's Flipkart audience over-indexes in BKC and Powai.
Mumbai's Demand Profile: Corporate, Transit and International Leisure
Mumbai is not a weekend leisure market. Monday-night occupancy regularly beats Friday-night occupancy. Your OTA strategy must reflect that.
BKC, Lower Parel, Powai, and Andheri East concentrate financial services, consulting, and media companies. Visiting executives fill hotels Sunday to Thursday, mostly through MMT's myBiz corporate travel platform, Cleartrip, or direct rate agreements. A hotel in these corridors without a GST invoice and flexible cancellation loses corporate bookings regardless of OTA.
CSMIA in Andheri West handled over 5 million international passengers in the first eight months of 2025. Maharashtra ranked first in India for foreign tourist visits in 2024, with roughly 3.7 million visits (Ministry of Tourism), and Mumbai accounts for about 15 percent of India's foreign arrivals by port of entry (2023 data). Gulf guests book on Booking.com and Agoda; North Americans use Expedia; Europeans use Booking.com. These guests rarely search MMT.
Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) opened to domestic flights in December 2025 and was targeting international services from mid-2026. Monitor the flight schedule and update your OTA location tags for Navi Mumbai and Thane hotels when international routes firm up.
MakeMyTrip and myBiz for Mumbai Hotels
A single MMT listing distributes across Goibibo and Travelguru automatically. This is the dominant domestic channel for Mumbai and non-negotiable for any corporate hotel. Your hotel does not enrol in myBiz separately: corporate bookings flow through your standard MMT listing. To capture them, your listing needs a GST GSTIN on the invoice, flexible cancellation up to 24 hours, and business amenities (Wi-Fi, work desk, parking) stated clearly. Commission runs at 15 to 25 percent; most independent hotels pay 18 to 22 percent, or ₹810 to ₹990 on a ₹4,500 room per night.
For slow weekend nights, use MMTBLACK member-only rates (available to Gold and Platinum tier members without touching your public rate) and Smart Deals. Set a weekend rate plan with breakfast or a local credit; business guests ignore it but leisure guests convert on it.
Booking.com for Mumbai Hotels
Booking.com is your primary channel for international guests: Gulf business travellers, Europeans visiting South Mumbai, and UK leisure guests around Colaba. Near CSMIA or in South Mumbai it typically ranks second after MMT by volume.
The Genius programme (Booking.com's loyalty tier) gives you a Genius badge and better placement in exchange for a 10 to 20 percent discount to frequent bookers. In Mumbai it suits properties with a real international share: Genius members are concentrated in Europe and North America, the guests who do not book on MMT. See our Genius guide. Preferred Partner adds roughly 2 to 3 percentage points of commission for a Preferred badge and higher placement. The Visibility Booster is a date-specific commission bid for slow periods, best used on mid-week monsoon nights rather than as a permanent setting.
Tag your property as Business Friendly in the extranet and fill in every corporate amenity: parking, airport shuttle, early check-in, GST invoice. Business travellers filter on these fields before they look at price.
Agoda for Mumbai Hotels
Agoda's strength in Mumbai is the Gulf corridor (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain) and Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand): exactly the source markets that use CSMIA as a hub or stopover. It matters most in Andheri West, South Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai as NMIA's Gulf routes grow.
For visibility, Agoda offers two programmes managed from the YCS (Your Connectivity Solutions) extranet. AGX (Agoda Growth Express) is a short-term commission uplift for a fast ranking boost, with no additional contract terms: useful for a new listing in Navi Mumbai that needs early traction. AGP (Agoda Growth Program) is a longer-term arrangement with an incremental commission or a monthly marketing fee if you prefer not to affect your ADR. Contact your Agoda market manager for current rates, as they are property-specific. High-scoring properties can also qualify for Agoda VIP status, which surfaces your listing to Agoda's top-spending guests without a separate application.
Expedia and Hotels.com for Mumbai Hotels
One listing on Expedia's partner portal distributes across the full Expedia Group network automatically, including Hotels.com. You do not need a separate Hotels.com account. Expedia's core strength in Mumbai is North American and European corporate travellers: financial services professionals flying into BKC for deal closings routinely book through Expedia or Hotels.com, a segment neither MMT nor Agoda reaches as well.
TravelAds is Expedia's paid sponsored listing tool; Accelerator lets you pay a higher commission on specific dates to boost your ranking on those dates. Both are managed from the partner portal. Use Accelerator on slow dates only, not as a permanent setting. Expedia's no-fee VIP Access programme gives better placement to One Key loyalty members in exchange for check-in recognition, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a small in-stay perk for Silver-tier and above guests: a modest operational commitment for a meaningful visibility lift.
Cleartrip for Mumbai Hotels
Cleartrip is owned by Flipkart and ranked fourth nationally in the STAAH 2025 chart, up two places year-on-year. Its user base skews towards domestic, tech-savvy travellers: in Mumbai that means BKC, Powai, and Andheri East, where the Flipkart-connected startup and IT workforce is concentrated. Cleartrip also benefits from flight-to-hotel cross-sell on its own app, giving it automatic distribution to travellers who just booked a domestic flight into CSMIA.
Cleartrip's partner visibility tools are less developed than MMT or Booking.com. List on the platform and keep rates competitive; check your Cleartrip extranet for any promotions available to your property, as the offering evolves. Commission rates are contractual; see our OTA commission guide for verified bands rather than relying on rate cards.
Direct Booking in Mumbai: Corporate Contracts and Google Free Links
The highest-value direct channel in Mumbai is a corporate rate contract with a nearby company. A hotel in Lower Parel with two or three accounts can fill 40 to 60 percent of weekday occupancy without paying OTA commission.
Corporate rate contracts
Identify employers within 2 km: banks and law offices in BKC, media companies in Andheri East, IT firms in Powai. Contact the HR or admin head (not the front desk) and offer ₹3,900 direct for a minimum of 20 room nights a month against a ₹4,500 OTA rate. One account saves ₹11,000 to ₹15,000 in commission monthly. Provide a GST invoice, WhatsApp booking line, and 48-hour free cancellation.
Google Free Booking Links and WhatsApp
Connect your booking engine to Google: when a corporate guest searches your hotel name, your direct rate appears alongside OTAs at zero commission. Read the Google Free Booking Links guide to set it up. After a repeat guest checks out, offer the direct rate via WhatsApp: at ₹4,000 versus ₹4,500 on MMT, they save 10 percent and you keep the full ₹4,000 instead of ₹3,600 after commission.
